International Transfer Student Admission Requirements

Deadlines:

Architecture and all Design programs only accept transfer students for Fall Semester.  All application documents are due March 1.

For all other University of Cincinnati programs:

Application Documents

All documents must be on file in the International Admissions Office by the appropriate deadline in order to be considered.

  • All documents must also come with a professional English translation, if needed
  • Notarized/certified copies of original documents are considered official

1. Application and Application Fee

**When completing your application, please be consistent in the use of your first name (your individual name) and your last name (your family name). Use the same order of first name and last name in all correspondence with the university.

Application Fee

All undergraduate applicants to the University of Cincinnati must submit an application fee in U.S. currency.  Payments may be done by credit card (Visa, Master Card, or Discover), check or money order made payable to the University of Cincinnati.

2. Transcripts/Coursework List 

Course-by-course evaluations of all university transcripts by a member of the National Association of Credit Evaluators, such as World Education Services are required. Please have the evaluator send UC both the course-by-course evaluation and the original, official university transcripts.

Prospective transfer students with less than one year of university coursework -- 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) -- will also need to submit high school transcripts.

3. Proof of English Ability 

All prospective international students must prove their English abilityby completing ONE of the following requirements.

Conditional Admission and ELS

If you require full-time, intensive English preparation before entering the university, please contact the ELS - Cincinnati Language Center, located on UC’s campus. This center is located on UC's campus and ELS students can receive many of the benefits available to UC students. Additionally, ELS and UC work collaboratively to issue Conditional Letters of Admission to certain academic programs, including many undergraduate programs.

Students must successfully complete the ELS 112 class to meet the English proficiency requirements.

English Language Requirement Exemptions

All prospective international students must provide proof of their English skills.  There are only three conditions for being exempt from taking a standardized test to demonstrate your English proficiency:

  1. You have taken a full year of high school or university-level coursework in the U.S. This must be shown on your transcripts.
  2. You have earned a passing score on the O-Level Exam (GSE)
  3. You are from one of the following countries:
    • Antigua, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Belize, Bermuda,
    • Canada (not Quebec), Dominican Republic, Fiji, Grand Cayman Islands, Grenada,
    • Irish Republic, Jamaica, Malawi, New Zealand, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia,
    • St. Vincent & Grenadines, Singapore, South Africa, Trinidad & Tobago, United Kingdom, Virgin Islands

4. Proof of Math Ability 

Transfer students with less than one year of university coursework -- 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) -- may be required to complete the Mathematics Proficiency Requirement through one of the following tests:
